Soulmate crew @ ARIA Awards

November 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Now that the hangover has subsided, I thought it might be appropriate to post up a pic of the Soulmate crew in all their pimped out glory @ this past weekend’s ARIA Awards in Sydney.

Unfortunately, Pez didn’t take home a trophy, but who can complain about losing to a group that did Gold numbers in its first week? Certainly not us. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Australian indie music’s night of nights, the 2009 AIR Awards, was held last night at The Forum in Melbourne. Soulmate’s own Pez had the prestigious honour of taking out the Best Independent Hip-Hop/Urban Album category for his debut LP A Mind Of My Own. Keep reading →

Get Busy Committee ‘Fresh Prince’ flip

October 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

If this sounds like the illegitimate lovechild of ’I Get Money’ and Pauline Pantsdown, don’t be mad. Your boys GBC only did what some bright spark shoulda done a looong time ago: chop up the fluorescent 90s-tastic rhymes from Will Smith’s sitcom theme and re-cut them into a schoolyard drive-by narrative. Genius.

For the uninitiated, Get Busy Committee is Styles of Beyond’s Ryu, Apathy from the Demigodz and Kid Frost’s son Scoop DeVille. “Supergroup” status is still unconfirmed, but judging by their brilliant logo/mascot (a koala in a Raiders cap holding an Uzi), they’re definitely on their way.

Popcorn love

Your baby boy Bangs made his debut live performance at the Phrase album launch this weekend. Much popcorn lovin’ in the place. Shout to Snob Scrilla, that’s some visionary sh*t.

If you haven’t experienced the genius of Bangs yet, do yourself a favour:

Pez nominated for AIR Award

October 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

pez new 2 (resized)

Our friends at the Jagermeister AIR Awards have kindly nominated Pez in their Best Independent Hip Hop/Urban Album category for this year.

Some stiff competition in the form of Adelaide party starters Funkoars, fellow ARIA nominees Astronomy Class, Obese supergroup Gully Platoon and the highly underrated Hermitude … but keep your fingers crossed for us!

It all goes down Sunday 22 November @ The Forum in Melbourne.

Pez nominated for Urban Album ARIA

October 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Congratulations are due to the homie Pez for his debut ARIA Award nomination today.

Pez’s A Mind Of My Own LP is up for the Best Urban Album gong, alongside releases from Hilltop Hoods, Phrase, Horrorshow and Astronomy Class. Some stiff competition but let’s see how we go…

(Oh, and if you’re wondering why this post is accompanied by a red carpet pic of the ‘brunette era’ Veronicas… well, it’s my blog, I’ll post what I like.)

Say no to blackface

October 7, 2009 · 2 Comments

It’s a sad day to be an Australian.

I never thought I’d say this, but I have to give it up to Harry Connick Jr (and not for his butter-smooth adult contemporary balladry).
